Although small geographically, New Hampshire is fertile ground for the architects, designers and builders working here. Our annual Design Awards celebrate and recognize this talented community.
Join the Friends of Stark Park and expand your love for the outdoors by spending a delightful day on a self-guided, self-paced Garden Tour featuring several private gardens in the vicinity of Stark Park, the General John Stark Gravesite AND get an inside look at the Stark House on Elm Street. This is a rare opportunity to tour this house thanks to the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
You will begin your Garden Tour at beautiful historic Stark Park to obtain your tour program book and map, revealing the locations of our “secret gardens.” You are welcome to visit the gardens in any order. You can linger in one and pass through another more quickly -- you control your time. Volunteers will be at each garden to check tickets and direct you to the gardens. These lovely, stylistically, and horticulturally diverse gardens are creations of inspiration ranging from homeowner gardeners to professionally designed landscapes. Get an up-close, behind the gates look a variety of different landscapes! Whether you are an experienced gardener or just getting started, these unique locations will give you many ideas to consider for your own landscape.
The Friends of Stark Park continue to work hard to maintain the improvements that have been done so far in the park. Future improvements include reducing the number of invasive species such as Burning Bush and European Spindle Tree among several other invasives, trail improvements, opening up views to the gravesite from the trails below and opening views to the river. Our Master Planning Committee is continuing to develop ideas for future improvements.
We encourage everyone to enjoy lunch at the park on our new benches that should be installed before the garden tour! Take a tour of the park and learn 20 different trees that have new tree labels posted throughout. Best of all, get a closer look at General John Stark’s Gravesite. Our gates will be open!
