A glamorous bathroom with timeless style

A neighboring shower is just as sleek and comfortable thanks to a Kohler oversized rainhead, body sprays and a DTV digital showering system. An Estrella Jazz glass mosaic—a stunning specialty tile used outside of the shower—is the master suite’s glamorous design anchor. Pocket doors connecting the bedroom and bathroom make the space look bigger.
Homeowner Amy Brar thoroughly enjoys the unique and dramatic details that make her Hollis home unparalleled in flair and facility; glamour is key. Her master bath, however, did not live up to her home’s “modern and elegant style.” The dark and dated space—full of odd angles, outmoded amenities and wasted space—was in dire need of a special touch. Ready for a change, Amy and her husband Harry asked designer Lisa Dougherty of Soca Interior Design Studio in Manchester to reconfigure and create a highly functional, beautiful space—“a place we could both use at the same time and enjoy waking up to every day,” Amy says.
Having worked with the Brars before on a kitchen renovation, Dougherty knew she had to design something that was fresh and unexpected. “This room needed a ‘wow’ factor,” Dougherty says. “So we incorporated a lot of special features and details.”
An Estrella Jazz Glass mosaic—used outside of the shower—was the renovation’s central design element, and the show-stopping feature the homeowners and designer were looking for. Amy says this glass mosaic—and its intricate handwork and bold pattern—“grabbed her.” “This room was built around this mosaic,” Amy says.
“The Estrella is a standout tile,” says Diane Dubberly, owner of Artistic Tile, LLC in Nashua, which supplied and installed the tiles. “Its shape and color transform the space.”
The bathroom’s other tilework is equally stunning and reflects a timeless glamour. A polished porcelain floor mingles with a one-inch-by-one-inch hand-cut glass mosaic tile. The graceful curves of the tile wave on the floor complement the sleek Victoria & Albert slipper tub. This freestanding bathtub is filled with a solid stream of water from the ceiling, thanks to a laminar flow bath filler and a Kohler DTV digital showering system.
Just as luxurious is the double vanity topped with Saci granite and the cabinetry’s antique mirror insets. The cabinetry’s drawers are outfitted with laundry, jewelry, makeup and hair care organization. “It is just like a salon,” Dougherty says. “It really is a tranquil and special bathroom.”
