Living with Craft exhibit

The Living with Craft exhibit, featured annually at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair in August, displays the unique pieces created by the league’s juried members and is professionally designed by interior designer Alice LaPorte of Alice LaPorte Interiors, LLC in Concord.LaPorte selects pieces submitted by each artist and works them into a pleasing, cohesive group of vignettes. She uses larger items to anchor each display and then works in other pieces.”Once I have established a few strong directions in the style of furnishings or colors, I begin selecting the color palette for the walls. I strive to add contrast as well as harmony and a feeling of the contemporary in my color selections. The colors are a jumping-off point for pulling in all other accessories as well as rugs,” LaPorte says. The room vignettes are great opportunities for the craftsmen to have their work displayed in a lifestyle setting. This allows visitors to see how these pieces may fit into their own homes.”The exhibit also offers an opportunity for visitors to become acquainted with the work of participating members as well as with the craftsmen themselves,” LaPorte says. During the fair, the artisans can be found at the exhibit, answering questions about their work and what inspires them.Another exhibit at the fair is the Sculpture Garden, which features a wide variety of garden art that includes sculpture, fountains, furnishings and outdoor accessories. These pieces are shown in a variety of garden settings, providing inspiration and ideas on how to integrate unique art into home gardens.
