Outstanding Homes and Outbuildings
The New Hampshire chapter of the American Institute of Architects celebrates exceptional residential architecture. In its twenty-eighth year, the New Hampshire chapter of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIANH’s) annual Excellence in Architecture Design Awards Program provides public and professional recognition for outstanding architecture. These awards are determined by a jury and based on overall design excellence, including aesthetics, clarity, creativity, appropriate functionality, sustainability, building performance and appropriateness with regard to the client’s vision. This year, thirteen projects were submitted in the residential category, along with nineteenth commercial and four “unbuilt” design submissions. AIANH member architects are eligible to submit projects anywhere in the world, while out-of-state member architects can submit projects that are located in New Hampshire. The jurors for the 2012 program were Joe Herrin, AIA, Heliotrope Architects; Anne Schopf, FAIA, Mahlum; and Christian Carlson, AIA, NBBJ, all from Seattle, Washington.Following is an overview of the residential submissions with descriptions of the projects provided by the architects. Winners will be announced at the AIANH Awards Banquet, scheduled for January 20 at the New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA) in Manchester. When possible, winning projects will be featured in upcoming issues of New Hampshire Home.In the meantime, all submissions are on view at the NHIA through January 20 and at aianh.org. Visitors to both the exhibit and the website can cast a ballot for their favorite projects in a People’s Choice vote through January 13.After the banquet, the winners will be posted on the AIANH website and be part of a traveling exhibition through the state in 2012.About AIANHThe New Hampshire chapter of AIA has more than three hundred members, and represents the majority of licensed architects in the state.
